Why is this calorie deficit not working?
First off some basic info about myself: -I consider myself extremely knowledgeable about health and nutrition, I even considered becoming a registered dietitian -I'm a vegetarian and don't eat dairy too much -I love cooking and make all my dinners from healthy cookbooks-under 400 cal -I eat mostly vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, and limit processed foods, don't drink alcohol or smoke I gained about 10 lbs in the past 6-12 months and don't know why b/c I haven't changed a thing. So i signed up for a free website that lets me log all my food and count calories. I entered in my info and set the goal to lose 2 lbs a week. Originally it gave me a deficit and said i was allowed to eat 1559 cal a day and still lose 2 lbs a week (regardless of exercise, i realize exercise is important and makes weight loss faster, but weight loss is 90% diet). I didn't lose even a pound so I gradually lowered the calories a few times. Right now it's at 1350 (I had to raise my age from 22 to like 42..basically it thinks I have the metabolism of an older woman!) It's been over 4 months and I still have not lost a SINGLE POUND! I'm all for slow and steady weight loss that lasts and I don't care if it takes 6 months, I just want to know that all the hard work I'm doing is paying off and it's not. I even did P90X this summer and was working out 1.5 hours a day 6 days a week, sweating buckets and still didn't lose a pound! I'm not secretly binging junk or in denial about anything...there really is no reason for this. I've always been a person to gain weight easily but with my lifestyle, being healthier than most people I know, I feel like I should weight 20 lbs less. WHAT GIVES??!! To skittles: Actually, I get plenty of protein thank you. Obviously you don't know much about nutrition, you can eat a vegetarian diet and get PLENTY of protein from beans, legumes, soy, tempeh, seitan, greek yogurt, and believe it or not some vegetables. I've done a nutrition analysis and I even get more protein than I need-there is no protein deficiency in this country! Get the facts before going off about "needing meat" and I eat healthy carbs and complex carbs from whole grains.
