Read my story! Am I ready to transition to an elliptical? Should I?
My name is Chris, I am 5'6 and weight 205 pounds. My goal weight is 180 pounds. I think its important for you to know my story. About 6 months ago I started exercising and eating healthier everyday. I was at a whopping 292 pounds and closing into 300 pounds gave me a mental breakdown. So now I have lost 87 pounds. Although, it was 88 pounds before I checked my weight last week. So I gained a pound, kinda freaked me out a bit. So this is the exercise I have been doing on a regular basis. Its simple, just minimum of 30 minutes of cardio on the treadmill, I go about 2 miles in that time period and I weight lift every other day for around 20-30 minutes(muscles are in fact getting bigger, so that is something to keep in mind). I have recently bumped my treadmill cardio up to 45 minutes and that put me a 3 miles. It feels great, but I fear it wont be enough for me to get back to my goal weight( I was 180 pounds before and lost 88 pounds like 2 years ago, thats another long story). I remember the first time I reached 200 pounds(by reached I mean, I was losing weight at that point, not gaining it) I had transitioned to the elliptical, and by doing that I did in fact reach my goal of 180, I even got all the way down to 172. First time I started a weight lost quest of sorts, I started at 260, and got down to 172 in 5 months. Difference in weight was 88 pounds Second time, which is happening now. My highest was 292 and so far im down to 205, in 6 months. Difference in weight as of now is 87 pounds. I have 25 pounds left to lose. So this is where I'm going with this: By using the treadmill, it gives me a constant pace but the impact on my legs each step hinders me from going faster since my legs are not yet strong enough, however I feel I could go much faster! I just hopped onto the Elliptical today, and it felt amazing. I was doing 1 resistance then 8 resistance intervals on the weight loss program, and I never paused on it. I did about 2 miles in 30 minutes, and my heart rate got as high as 160 which is optimal, and i notice that my heart rate didnt ever get that high on the treadmill. Should I start sticking with the elliptical from now on? If so, is that weight loss program ideal for me? Before I just did manual and worked at a consistent resistance. Or should I stick with the treadmill? I'd also like to that I don't have a trainer, I've always been by myself on this. These tips are great!
